Journals

For almost every discussion day, I will randomly select two students to share their journal entry as a means to open up our discussion for the day. Please answer these prompts in at least 50 words.

Be ready to share, at random, during the beginning of our discussion period for each entry. Points will be taken off your grade if you are not prepared. After our final journal entry is complete, I will be collecting all of your journals in one document; please hold onto them.

When you submit them at the end of the semester, please name your file: s12_lit218300_yourlastnamelowercase_journals

The Odyssey

  • The film adaptation of the poem is really not just The Odyssey, but also recounts issues from The Iliad, The Orestia, The Trojan Women, and some other Greek plays. How does this approach effect the adaptation?
  • The film adaptation portrays the narrative in a much more linear fashion than the poem pans out. What is different about this? As you read, which approach do you prefer?
  • An issue with the film potentially is that it focused far too heavily on Odysseus and loses a lot of what is important about not only his journey in relation to them, but also Telemachus and Penelope as well. How does that approach change your viewing of the film? Did you find it taking away from your close reading in relation to the film?
